Bellevue History

The community began in 1822, when Joshua Pilcher of the Missouri Fur Company built a fur trading post in the area. The post later came to be known as Fontenelle’s Post, and was later purchased by Lucien Fontenelle in 1828. Early French Canadian trappers named the town Bellevue because of its picturesque beauty. Bellevue housed the Strategic Air Command’s headquarters shortly after the Second World War.
